Anyone seeking a Torrance outpatient rehab center deserves high-quality care they can count on. Peninsula Health Center offers a host of different outpatient programs and sober living for clients so that every individual we work with can access addiction treatment in a supportive and flexible environment. Here’s what you should know about each level of care offered at Peninsula Health Center.
Partial hospitalization programs (PHP), also called partial day programs, are the most intensive level of outpatient care. At Peninsula Health, this means that clients in our partial hospitalization programs will get the same level of therapy and other treatments offered at a residential Torrance drug and alcohol rehab center, but with the ability to live off-site while they receive care. Unlike our intensive outpatient and outpatient programs, clients in PHP may participate in individual or group therapy sessions five days a week or more. Depending on client needs, someone in PHP may go to treatment somewhere from 4-8 hours per day.
Intensive outpatient (IOP) is a step below partial hospitalization programs, meaning that the time commitment and level of support is slightly lower. Clients in an intensive outpatient program usually attend care for roughly twelve hours per week (spread across multiple days throughout the week), though the exact number of hours spent in treatment each week may vary based on a client’s needs.
An intensive outpatient program may be the right fit if you or your loved one seeking care has a mild-to-moderate substance use disorder, minimal mental health concerns, and a safe, supportive home environment.
Outpatient programs offer more flexibility and provide a lower level of support than an intensive outpatient program. An outpatient program is ideal for clients seeking a Torrance alcohol rehab center or Torrance drug rehab center who need a lower level of support and more time at home for whatever reason (e.g., taking care of one’s family, working while in treatment, or stepping down from a higher level of care and transitioning back into daily life). While outpatient care requires a lower time commitment per week, outpatient programs can last for longer, often ranging from 3-6 months.
The structure of our outpatient programs lets clients stay involved in their day-to-day life while participating in therapy on a predetermined schedule. Typically, this will mean that you or your loved one attends care 3-5 days per week for a set number of hours per day based on your or their specific treatment needs.
After treatment at a Torrance drug and alcohol rehab center, it is imperative that you or your loved one has continued support. Our clients get help with aftercare planning in treatment to ensure that they have the services they need in their area once they exit their treatment program. Aftercare planning looks different for every client and may include different elements based on a person’s needs and other factors. Most often, aftercare programs involve ongoing therapy, psychiatric care, participation in community-based support groups (such as AA or NA), and sober living options.
Continued care or aftercare aids relapse prevention and keeps individuals involved in a supportive community after their treatment program ends, helping them navigate day-to-day life with resilience and strength.

What sets Peninsula Health apart from other Torrance drug addiction treatment options? When looking for a Torrence drug and alcohol rehab center, it can be valuable to think about what features and treatment approaches will be best for yourself or your loved one. Here’s some information about our specialized treatment offerings near Torrance and other areas we serve.
There are many different ways to approach physical and mental health concerns. Peninsula Health offers holistic (or alternative) medicine alongside traditional substance use disorder and mental health treatments. Holistic medicine, treatment, and therapies can be used alone or alongside Western medicine. Meditation, equine therapy, acupuncture, fitness and other recreation activities, and life skills training are all common examples of holistic treatments that our clients benefit from.
The word “holistic” means whole-person. Using holistic medicine pairs with our goal of taking care of every client as a whole, unique individual. Better yet, research suggests that combining holistic treatments with traditional treatments can lead to better outcomes when addressing substance abuse and related concerns.
Traditional detoxification refers to a level of care where clients go to a treatment facility for roughly 5-7 days so that they can stop using alcohol and other drugs in a supportive medical environment. While some of our clients attend a detox center or another form of inpatient care prior to entering one of our treatment programs, we offer at-home supervised detoxification services for clients who experience milder symptoms in the withdrawal process.
The term “dual diagnosis” describes the presence of a substance use disorder and at least one other mental health condition. For example, anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Not only are mental health conditions prevalent among the general population, but people with a substance use disorder are at a higher risk. Those who live with a substance use disorder and one or more additional mental health disorders benefit from our dual diagnosis program, which is designed to address both.
Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is FDA-approved and shown to work for many people experiencing some substance use disorders. MAT used for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) works by reducing cravings and blocking the “high” individuals get from Opioid use; a prime example of how MAT can work. If you or your loved one is someone who may benefit from medication-assisted treatment, it is an option available at Peninsula Health.
