Why Benzo Drug Rehab is Essential

Benzodiazepines are “depressants that produce sedation and hypnosis, relieve anxiety and muscle spasms, and reduce seizures.” These medications are most often abused by young people who take the drug either orally or crushed. Those struggling with benzo addiction use it to get high and often are also users of heroin and/or cocaine. Opioid users often take benzodiazepines as well to enhance drug “euphoria.”

Because they are depressants, colloquially known as “downers,” benzodiazepines slow the central nervous system, causing sleepiness and a relaxed mood. However, benzodiazepines can often cause amnesia, hostility, irritability, and disturbing dreams. Like most drugs, benzos have dangerous overdose effects. These symptoms include things such as extreme drowsiness, decreased reflexes, respiratory depression, coma, and even death. Even more dangerous, when used in combination with opioids, symptoms may include profound sedation, respiratory depression, coma, and death. All of these concerns lead to an important conclusion: benzo addictions can be life-threatening, and they require treatment that addresses them from cause to effect.

How Medication-Assisted Benzo Abuse Treatment Can Help

One of the initial steps of recovering from a substance use disorder and working toward a sober life is quitting the addictive substance. This is one of the hardest steps of the process and can include painful, even life-threatening withdrawal symptoms. The use of medication-assisted treatment, or MAT, can help alleviate withdrawal symptoms such as cravings, headaches, anxiety, and depression. Medication-assisted treatment entails the use of FDA-approved medications in combination with substance abuse therapy. This method allows the client’s addiction to be addressed from multiple fronts. By nullifying the painful symptoms of withdrawal, medication-assisted treatment can make one’s journey toward recovery much more manageable and, in turn, viable.

Research shows that medication-assisted treatment boasts noteworthy effectiveness in treating addiction. The mitigation of cravings is effective in easing the process of clients becoming abstinent from substances. In fact, it has been found that medication-assisted treatment has a  90% confirmed drug abstinence rate as well as the ability to lower craving and relapse rates.

What We Offer: More Forms of Benzo Drug Rehab

Choosing the right treatment option depends on your care needs and experience. We know that no two people walk the same path to recovery. That’s why we offer several treatment options designed to fit varying levels of need.

  • Intensive OutpatientIntensive outpatient programs tend to involve less monitoring than some other treatment options and are, therefore, usually recommended for those with mild to moderate care needs. Our intensive outpatient programs entail a combination of evidence-based and holistic therapy options such as CBT, trauma-informed therapy, and DBT, as well as yoga, meditation, and mindfulness. By providing both kinds of therapy, we give our clients the opportunity to heal in different aspects of life.
  • Outpatient TreatmentJust like a residential treatment program, outpatient treatment focuses on helping you achieve recovery through comprehensive, evidence-based treatment. Where outpatients differ is the treatment environment. Outpatient treatment allows clients to live at home while pursuing life-changing benzo abuse treatment. Within outpatient treatment, clients will participate in therapy and counseling sessions, often as a combination of group and individual counseling.
  • Partial HospitalizationPartial hospitalization programs, or PHPs, provide intensive rehab without requiring clients to stay overnight or for an extended stay in our benzo addiction treatment center. This program offers the same levels of therapy options as one would find in a residential setting. However, the PHP allows clients to continue engaging in familial and work responsibilities. Partial hospitalization usually involves participation in individual or group therapy sessions five plus days a week, up to eight hours per day.
  • AftercareSubstance use disorders are chronic, meaning that while they cannot be cured, they can be managed through treatment, sobriety, therapy, and holistic healing. At Peninsula Health Center, we offer a variety of treatment options to help our clients quit their substances, learn to navigate their triggers and challenges, and journey to sustainable sobriety. In addition to our treatment options, we also offer an aftercare program. Our aftercare program is designed to help you transition to your new, healthy life following benzo abuse treatment and navigate the challenges of sobriety to avoid relapse.
