HealthNet Insurance Coverage

HealthNet is a health insurance company in California. There are five different plan options available from HealthNet. Each level determines how much you pay as a member versus what the company will pay.

Plans and coverage levels from HealthNet include:

  • Platinum: The health plan pays 90% of treatment costs, and the individual is responsible for 10%. A Platinum plan will come with the highest monthly costs.
  • Gold: A Gold plan from HealthNet offers 80% coverage, with the individual expected to pay 20% of the costs of care.
  • Silver: These plans include 70% coverage from HealthNet, and 30% is the member’s responsibility.
  • Bronze: With a Bronze plan, your monthly costs are low, but the health plan pays just 60% of your care costs, with you being responsible for the remaining 40%.
  • Basic: Less than 60% of your care costs are covered by a Basic Plan. A minimum coverage plan is also known as a catastrophic plan, and at HealthNet, they’re only available to people under 30 years old or with an exemption.

If you’re unsure how to verify your coverage or looking for a HealthNet drug rehab center, please contact Peninsula Health Center today.

Does Insurance Cover Rehab Costs?

When someone develops a substance use disorder, it’s a chronic disease. This is something decades of research and medical evidence have uncovered. As a chronic disease, treatment is essential to manage symptoms and help someone live well in recovery.

Addiction is considered a chronic disease because it affects the brain’s function and structure. Initially, it may be a choice to use drugs or alcohol. Over time, as an addiction forms, a person’s use is no longer within their control.

Substance use disorders, the most severe of which is addiction, affect someone’s entire life. This includes mental and physical health, relationships, and social functioning. With treatment, it’s possible to stop using substances and also develop coping skills and strategies that can be used throughout your daily life.

Since addiction is a disease and proper treatment is essential for recovery, insurers very often cover the costs of rehab. A couple of laws and mandates apply to insurers as well. One is the mental health parity mandate. This requires insurers to provide coverage for behavioral health care similar to what’s provided for other types of medical care. The Affordable Care Act is also relevant. The ACA made it so insurers have to cover certain behavioral health services, including rehab and addiction treatment.

Specifics of what your insurance covers can depend on your plan, your healthcare needs, and where you receive treatment, but the broad answer is that insurance will often cover at least some of the costs of addiction treatment.

Peninsula Health Center is a California addiction treatment center. We accept drug rehab HealthNet coverage in many cases, and our team can help verify what’s covered for you.

Your Health Insurance Can Pay for Treatment

Learn more about how Peninsula Health Center works with health insurance plans and how your insurance can help cover most of the costs associated with treatment.

Does HealthNet Cover
Mental Health Treatment?

It’s common for someone with a substance use disorder to have one or more other mental health conditions. These are known as co-occurring disorders. When they’re treated at the same time, it’s a dual diagnosis program. As is true with substance use disorders, insurers will usually cover the costs of mental health treatments to an extent, based on the limitations of your specific plan and your needs.

With or without addiction treatment, mental health services are included in parity laws and the Affordable Care Act.

Various types of mental health services may be covered by insurance like HealthNet. This includes counseling and behavioral therapies such as cognitive-behavioral and dialectical behavioral therapy. Medications to manage symptoms of psychiatric disorders are also usually covered by your insurer.

When searching for a HealthNet rehab center, consider outpatient care at Peninsula Health Center in California.

What Types of Rehab Will HealthNet Cover?

While again, it depends on where you seek treatment, the medical necessity of your care, your treatment plan, and your policy, in general, some of the levels of care or types of rehab that may be covered if you’re a HealthNet member include:

  • Partial day programs: In a partial day program, also known as partial hospitalization, patients receive addiction and mental health treatment at an intensive level. These programs let clients return home in the evenings, but they require a significant time commitment compared to other outpatient programs. A partial hospitalization program requires more counseling sessions and weekly treatment center visits than an intensive outpatient program.
  • Intensive Outpatient: Also known as an IOP, this can be a transitional step between inpatient rehab and outpatient treatment. It can also be a starting point for someone with a milder substance use disorder. You can maintain most aspects of your daily life during an IOP while receiving support and treatment. Monitoring is limited in these programs, and evidence-based and holistic approaches can be integrated into a treatment plan.
  • Outpatient rehab: Outpatient programs are ideal for someone who’s already completed mental health or addiction treatment inpatient or in a more intensive setting but continues to need support.
  • Medication-assisted treatment: MAT is part of recovery for many people. It includes using approved medicines to help with recovery and reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms. MAT is available at Peninsula Health Center and is often covered by insurance, including HealthNet.

In-Network vs. Out-of-Network

While generally, an insurer will cover the costs of rehab and mental health treatment, there are restrictions. For example, HealthNet may require you to go to an in-network treatment center. This means the insurer has worked out an agreement with the center on how much they’ll be reimbursed for services. This keeps your out-of-pocket expenses lower. If you were to go out-of-network, depending on your plan, you might receive no coverage or pay more for your care than you would in-network.

If you’re ready for the next step or want to learn more about insurance coverage for rehab, contact Peninsula Health Center today. As a HealthNet drug rehab center, we work with most other major insurers. We can also help you identify payment options if you don’t have insurance. Start your recovery journey or continue to build on your previous achievements in higher levels of care at our outpatient facility.
